Dinner For Schmucks: Movie Review
Time to sit down to a dinner with some of the most interesting group of Schmucks ever seen on screen. Well-known comedic director Jay Roach brings us an adaptation of the French film Le Diner de Cons, or as heâs interpreted it Dinner with Schmucks. Thereâs no doubt that this all star comedic cast will have you laughing, even if it makes you a schmuck for doing so.
Check out the review belowâ¦
The Plot:Rudd plays a businessman looking to get a promotion, in order for him to do so his boss wants him to find a guest to bring to his monthly event, a âdinner for idiots.â Whoever brings the biggest idiot wins the big new office! He happens across the perfect dinner guest played by Carell and debates on whether or not itâs right to bring him to this dinner. Will he stand by his moral and leave Carell alone ? Or will he enjoy his new view?
The Players:- Director: Jay Roach
- Screenwriters: David Guion and Michael Handelman
- Original Screenwriter: Francis Veber (âLe Diner de Consâ)
- Actors: Steve Carell (read interview), Paul Rudd (read interview), Zach Galifianakis, Jemaine Clement, Stephanie Szostak, Lucy Punch, Bruce Greenwood
- Lucy Punch: The second I walked out of this film I googled her. She was so perfectly over the top for the role. She was able to surprise us with a completely unique character that you would never see in real life but helped along the story with a ton of laughs. She shook up the story and played the role of a psychotic-schizophrenic pitch perfect.
- Steve Carell: This is not an entirely original character for him in some ways but heâs so endearing as a crazy guy. Heâs so truthfully ridiculous that you follow him even when the plot starts to let you down. Although something to consider on a second watching is that uou could take this same character and add some horror music and one scary movie: he loves to collect dead animals and he forces himself into other peoples lives even when they donât want him there â" In a different movie he could be one frightening serial killer, but due to a few good pratfalls and a couple of ridiculous jokes â" youâve got yourself an edgy, mainstream comedy (I canât wait to see this redone to some horror music).
- Paul Rudd: The man can set up a joke like no other. Heâs known for being the âstaight-guyâ and in this film he delivers on exactly what weâve come to know and love from him.
- Supporting Cast: Zach Galifianakis and Jemaine Clement are quite possibly two of THE BEST deadpan actors working today. Neither of them have to do anything and yet theyâll both have you laughing
- The Mice: Such a nice, odd detail. Talk about a great device to both introduce you to a characters back-story, insecurities, and heart.
- Cheesy Ending: They wrap everything up with a nice convenient little bow. Itâs completely expected but they add their own flare to it so that itâs not completely comic-less.
- Predictability: The story as a whole is quite predictable and there are a number of convenient plot points to get the characters into their next joke. That being said, I wasnât looking for a mind-blowing plot, I was looking for humor and that the film delivered on.
- The Odd Part: The fact of the matter youâre laughing at people who are âweirdâ while being told itâs bad to laugh at people that are âweird.â But then again, isnât that what we do in most comedies? Itâs a bit of a conundrum, but at the same time the characters they pick are extremely over the top and the people laughing at them are equally over the top in the jerk-iness status, so the only thing that sets you aside from being one of those jerks is possibly learning a lesson. Itâs hit or miss.
This is by no means a brilliant film, but it had me laughing out loud several times, it has an endearing message and the heart of it and even a somewhat edgy quality that other basic comedies donât have.

Mark Wahlberg Receives Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame
Mark Wahlberg was honored with a star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame today. Mark's wife, Rhea Durham, and their children Ella (6), Grace (6 months), Michael (4) and Brendan (1) were at his side to celebrate with him.
Mark has been acting since 1993; his first movie role was in Renaissance Man. Of course, he was famous long before that because of his music and modeling for Calvin Klein.
Will Ferrell also showed up to his support his 'The Other Guys' co-star.
Mark's star is # 2414.
Even though his kids are so young, it's a wonderful thing for them to see their dad receive this honor. I'm sure his family and friends are proud of him. It must be a little surreal to be a part of the Walk of Fame. :)

Islamabad Plane Crash
Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; Love leaves a memory no one can steal. Blessed be their souls who have died in Islamabad Plane crash.
Fashion central feels extremely sorry for the loss of lives in Islamabad Plane crash for it is undoubtedly one of the biggest losses for the country that can never be recovered.
The tragedy stuck the Airblue flight ED-202 just 20 minutes before landing at Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad. The plane was trying to land during cloudy and rainy weather when it lost the contact with control tower. Interior Minister Rehman Malik told reporters, âThe plane was at 2,600 feet before landing but suddenly it went to 3,000 feet, which was unexplainableâ.
Eyewitnesses saw the plane flying at unusually low altitude before a loud bang and the plane disintegrated into a gorge between two hills at five kilometers from Margalla Road, taking the lives of 152 people, including 6 crew members, 7 children, 2 US citizens and an Austrian born businessman.
The whole team of Fashion central expresses its sorrow and deepest sympathies for the family and friends of deceased. May God give them courage and strength to endure the grief and bring peace to the souls of those who are no more with us. (Amen)

Katie Holmes Pregnant (Tabloid Falsely Implies)!
Katie Holmes may be ready for baby #2, but it ain't happening anytime soon. Don't let the cover below fool you, this is just boilerplate Life & Style crap.
If you actually read the article, it cites as "evidence" this quote: "It's just fabulous," she told Life & Style at an NYC screening of The Extra Man July 19.
"I'm very lucky. Very lucky."
She is referring, of course, to motherhood, not the fact that she's pregnant. Which she isn't. Although she did play into the magazine's hand a little bit.
BABY #2 IS COMING: For some other person, maybe. We can see L&S' confusion - touching one's stomach and liking ice cream are tell-tale symptoms.
Mrs. Tom Cruise has been playing an expectant Jackie O in the History Channel miniseries The Kennedys and is "positively beaming" during production.
In Canada, she's been "spotted fondly rubbing her prosthetic belly" and cooing over kids on set while spending mother-daughter time with Suri Cruise.
According to the publication, Katie has "made no secret" of the plan to give Suri a sibling. They've recycled this quote for four years now. Just saying.
What nonsense. At least they gave Jennifer Aniston the week off.
