Michelle Williams in Meeks Cutoff Movie Trailer

Michelle Williams Meeks Cutoff 2 25 11 kc Michelle Williams in Meeks Cutoff Movie Trailer
Among her amazing performance in the Oscar nominated feature Blue Valentine, Michelle Williams somehow managed to sneak in a period piece. The busy actress appears in a drama set in the middle of nowhere that pits a family against the elements and savages. It’s a complete change of pace from what we’ve seen Williams tackle in the past. Check out the trailer…
Prior to watching this trailer, we had no idea that Paul Dano was in this movie. We started to have flashbacks to There Will Be Blood. Whenever there’s a desert, guns, and some kind of savagery he’s there!
Official Synopsis:
The year is 1845, the earliest days of the Oregon Trail, and a wagon team of three families has hired the mountain man Stephen Meek to guide them over the Cascade Mountains. Claiming to know a short cut, Meek leads the group on an unmarked path across the high plain desert, only to become lost in the dry rock and sage. Over the coming days, the emigrants must face the scourges of hunger, thirst and their own lack of faith in each other’s instincts for survival. When a Native American wanderer crosses their path, the emigrants are torn between their trust in a guide who has proven himself unreliable and a man who has always been seen as the natural enemy.
Meek’s Cutoff opens on April 8th.

Kelsey Grammer and Kayte Walsh: Married!

Kelsey Grammer and Kayte Walsh are now husband and wife, just two weeks after his divorce from Camille Grammer was finalized. Congratulations, we think!

The pair exchanged vows during an afternoon ceremony at the Longacre Theater in Manhattan, where he starred in the Tony-winning La Cage aux Folles.

This is the first marriage for Kayte, 29, and the fourth for Kelsey, 55.

Kayte & Kelsey

After 15 days of legal freedom, Kelsey Grammer is spoken for again!

"Kelsey Grammer and Kayte Walsh were married today at a private ceremony for family and friends," the actor's rep said in a statement.

Kelsey, whose split from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Camille Grammer was chronicled all season on that program, is not looking back.

"I've never been happier in my life," Grammer said of his new life with Kayte Walsh, a British flight attendant. "I'm extremely happy."

Following today's ceremony, the newlyweds and guests headed to the reception at the Plaza Hotel, where the festivities will go until 2 a.m.

Somehow we doubt Camille will be in attendance, but that shouldn't stop her from commenting on the event ad nauseam to gain sympathy/publicity.

One of either Dayle Hadlee (Richard's brother) or Ian Chappell will be wearing a smug smile on Friday at the end of the Australia-New Zealand brawl at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. If your ears are being deafened by the clamour of sub-continental fans thrilled at having gotten the gamut of cricket’s spectrum for a full two months, brace yourself.

The trans-Tasman rivalry just got added to the din, with the two cricketing boards suggesting that the winner of the match will not just get vital points, but also get to hang on to the Chappell-Haddlee trophy for a year. As the teams contest their age-old give-and-take in India, fans will be treated to a show of patriotic vendetta along with the cricketing sparring. While both sides are coming off wins against lower-ranked sides, New Zealand routed their opponent brutally, while Australia managed to escape the consequences of a mediocre batting performance with some blistering pace bowling.

On Tuesday, the Dutch batsmen were able to extract 292 runs from the Nagpur wicket. Earlier, in the warm-up game New Zealand played here, their total of 311 was brashly endangered by Ireland, before they prevailed. New Zealand will, therefore, find the wicket kindlier for the experience and sweet memories from that outing. For all your money, the Vidarbha Stadium can be expected to produce another flurry of runs on Friday as well.

Australia

Australia’s batting has always had a good opening combination. With Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden providing blazing starts at the helm, it was always easy for the middle order to show form even when they lacked it. At present though, while Shane Watson has managed to replicate one half of the traditional Aussie impetus, Brad Haddin has not been of the same pedigree alongside him.

As a result, the middle order has had to beat a path of its own more often. While Ricky Ponting seemed to want to get a good grip on the track, playing the cautious bat against Prosper Utseya’s spin, Michael Clarke felt some good bat on ball against Zimbabwe, and will be skipping down in response to Daniel Vettori’s flight. Despite being a player who is comfortable attacking spin, David Hussey has strangely been falling to spinners all-month long. However, before having been second-guessed by Ray Price, he had struck a couple of blows to get the Aussies going towards the end of their innings. Cameron White has been finding it hard to time the ball, but Ponting is not worried too much. He averages 47 in India, and should find it easy to loft the ball straight on this flat pitch.

It was in Nagpur that Jason Krejza debuted with 12 wickets against the Indian Test side. On Monday, he troubled the Zimbabweans with his flight and tweak, turning the ball square on occasion. While the Aussie batsmen had struggled against spin, it was high pace and aerial movement that Shaun Tait, Mitchell Johnson and Brett Lee used to knock over the Zimbabweans. Johnson picked up four, bowling full and straight, sliding a couple of quick swingers off the outside edge, and will hope to keep his radar going the same. The Kiwis will be in two minds whether to focus their preparations on Australia’s pace attack or on the spinning track.

The pinch of Michael-Hussey-deprivation felt by the Australian side will be aggravated now that he has had a good recovery from his hamstring surgery, becoming fit enough to be considered for the domestic Sheffield Shield matches in Australia. Add to that the great run of scores he had in the 2010 Chappell-Hadlee series and Australia’s dire need of a middle-order batsman capable of standing firm on the turning wickets, and Australian selector Greg Chappell might well be getting some hate-mail.

New Zealand

If the Australians are anxiously training against spin in the nets, New Zealand should be equally concerned about their own discomfort against turn. Having seen Harbhajan Singh and Ravichandran Ashwin topple the Kiwi batsmen in the practice game on Thursday, the likes of Krejza, Smith, Hussey and Clarke will undoubtedly rub their palms with delight when their turn comes. Jesse Ryder virtually yearned for the pavillion against India, flat-batting mistimed shots in trying to cope with the spinners, while Ross Taylor got out before he could bring out his repertoire of sweeps and flicks.

That the New Zealand bowlers utterly crushed the timid Kenyan batsmen at Chennai will not count for too much when Watson and Haddin take strike on Friday. Jacob Oram got some lift with his height, and has displayed a knack for picking up wickets early in his spells. Although Hamish Bennett, who picked up four wickets on Sunday, was effective with his tight lines, he may find it hard to keep his place if Kyle Mills is fit after having missed the team’s tournament opener due to a back problem. Mills does not, however, have a particularly forceful record against Australia, with an average of 31 and economy of over 5, and unless he’s fully fit, Bennett might have the edge over him.

Daniel Vettori is not as dominant against the Australians as he is with the rest of the world. His career bowling average of 31.32 and economy of 4.13 both shoot up playing against the Aussies. But playing on the turning Indian tracks may put a different spin on his stats.

Sundance 2011: Connected's Tiffany Shlain Review/Interview

Connected Tiffany Shlain resize Sundance 2011: Connecteds Tiffany Shlain Review/Interview
Tiffany Shlain is the only director with two films at this year’s Sundance Film Festival: her short film, Yelp: With Apologies to Allean Ginsberg’s “Howl, and her documentary Connected: An Autoblogography About Love, Death, and Technology.  The documentary begins as an exploration of the increasing connectivity among humans from the advent of written language to the rise of the internet, but takes a hard turn when her father, the inspiration for and collaborator on the film, is diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.  To find out more about the film and our response, and see footage of our interview with Ms. Shlain, check out the rest of the article after the jump…
Connected feels like a personal story from its beginning.  Director Tiffany Shlain puts herself at the center of the film immediately by addressing the camera and explaining her story and intentions to the audience.  She presents her thesis and dives right into the material.  It starts by taking a rather academic tone, asserting the history of human communication and technology, how it has progressed over time, and what that has meant for the evolution of the human brain.  She explores right and left brain theory, and how that relates to differences between male and female thought.
She introduces her father as an influence over her interest in the study of technology and its relationship with the human brain.  She also opens up and explains that in spite of five miscarriages, she and her husband are continuing to try and build a family.  But just as she manages to get pregnant, her father is diagnosed with brain cancer.  She then decides to use the film to as a vehicle document her father’s final thoughts and opinions, many of which are related to his life’s work at the center of this film.  But he also ruminates on life and relationships.  These emotional topics replace the original crux of the film’s subject, and it becomes more about their relationship than anything else.
Though the genuine emotion conveyed in the latter part of the film is compelling, it’s hard not to feel disappointed that the fascinating exploration of the implications of technology and human interaction fall by the wayside.  One could certainly assertt that actual human interaction will always be more important than artificial or manufactured connections, but with the way the world is moving, and the unique perspective of founder of the Webby awards, awareness of the consequences of these trends ought not to be ignored.
The film is crafted well enough, relying on a great deal of stock or found footage from different areas of pop culture, á la Michael Moore, to serve as stimulus while the lecturing monologues on history are delivered.  The studio footage of Shlain addressing the camera is well lit and vivid, but a lot of the home movies seem to have been shot on consumer grade cameras, and the inconsistency in the footage of her father with the high quality the rest of the film is a bit distracting at times.  But such is the nature of documentary:  one uses what they can of what they have available to capture a specific moment in time.
By the end of the film, Connected feels more like an exercise in a filmmaker’s use of their medium as a means of personal catharsis than to explore a particular subject or character in great depth.  That is not to say that it utterly fails, but if you are looking for a scientific discussion on the matter of neuroscience and technology, you may be better off searching TED.com.   However, if you are looking for the chance to see an artist present a stream of consciousness rumination on love, life, death, and family, then there is a lot of material in this film to connect with.
Rating: 6/10
Also, check out our interview with director Tiffany Shlain, in which she talks about her filmmaking techniques, the involvement of her family in the doc, and her desire to connect with audiences.  And you can learn more about the film at its site, www.ConnectedTheFilm.com

Is Katie Holmes the victim of an anti-Scientology smear campaign?

fp_6588379_jacknjill_anm_02_16

Yesterday, I had a summary of two reports from The Hollywood Reporter and Us Weekly, regarding the Sundance premiere of Katie Holmes’ latest movie, The Son of No One. It’s not really a “Katie Holmes movie” though - it’s a cop drama where Katie has a supporting part against the leads, Channing Tatum, Juliette Binoche, Tracy Morgan, Al Pacino and Ray Liotta. Still, according to THR and Us Weekly, it was Katie’s poor performance that created an exodus of critics and executives, as well as out-right snickers towards Katie’ performance. Except according to Roger Friedman, that didn’t happen. At all.

It must be a funny alignment of the stars if I have to come to the defense of Katie Holmes. But she and the film she’s in here at Sundanceâ€"”Son of No One”â€"have been smeared and maligned by the Hollywood Reporter and US Weekly. The result is dozens of automated pickups by blogs, causing a search nightmare based on total falsehoods. I was at the press screening of Dito Montiel’s “Son of No One” on Monday. No one chuckled or snorted when Katie was on screen. No one walked out of the film. There was no exodus, no running for the doors. No “collective groan.” The Hollywood Reporterâ€"now a tabloid effortâ€"reported this even though the writer of the piece was not present. Then US Weekly regurgitated the material from THR. The THR editor, Lindsay Powers, came from tabloid manufacturer of celebrity fictions. So you can’t believe a word of any of it.

“Son of No One” is Dito Montiel’s follow up to his very good “A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints.” Like “Saints,” this film stars Channing Tatum. He gives a powerful performance as a crooked cop. Katie plays his wife. Montiel in a sense has made his “Prince of the City,” very much influenced by the legendary Sidney Lumet. This is Katie trying to break her image of a goody two shoes. She is perfectly fine. Her character curses several times in the first fifteen minutes. No one laughs. Her delivery is impeccable.

…It does seem to me that Katie Holmes was attacked by THR and then US Weekly. Do they hate her because she’s married to Tom Cruise. We can’t really pile on Katie for her personal choices masked as movie criticism. We may not agree with her personal life, but that’s another area completely.

[From Friedman’s column in Showbiz 411]

So Friedman came to the Kate-Bot’s defense, and called out The Hollywood Reporter and Us Weekly. THR still hasn’t issued anything in the way of a correction or apology, but Us Weekly did publish this report last night:

Katie Holmes still has fan in her corner. The day after the actress’ performance in Sundance flick, The Son of No One was panned â€" reports said there was a mass exodus before the end of the film â€" one of the crime drama’s producers is coming to her defense.

“Despite Katie’s few scenes, she was fantastic in the role!” producer and sales agent Cassian Elwes tells UsMagazine.com. “We’ve already received three offers on the film. We’re 100 percent behind her and the entire cast’s performances in this film.”

As for reports that people left before the credits rolled, Elwes explains a projectionist mistakenly turned on the lights two scenes before the end of the film.

“There wasn’t a mass exodus,” says Elwes. “The people who did see it, liked the film.”

That includes Holmes, 32. “She loves the film and she’s great in it,” Elwes tells Us. “She’s very upset by this attack.”

[From Us Weekly]

Jezebel asks if there’s some kind of concerted smear campaign against Katie, and if so, why and by whom? Is it because of the Church of Scientology? Is it because “Hollywood hates Tom Cruise”? Is it because people spin grand conspiracies about Xenu, auditing, lobotomies, marriage contracts and barley water? Or is it because, in Jezebel’s words, “The truth is probably far less salacious. Whether it’s deserved or not, Holmes has developed a reputation for being a not-so-great actress who looks to her husband to prop up her career. It fits better with that narrative to say her acting in Son of No One sparked a walkout, and that’s a much juicier tabloid story than a report about a bunch of people quietly enjoying a movie.”

Personally, I think it’s a little bit of both - there probably some people who take pleasure in the ongoing disaster of Katie’s professional career, and some people are even trying to help that along. But I also think Katie continues to suck as an actress, and she’s just getting parts because of Tom’s dwindling influence, and that pisses people off - rightly so.

Outlook for 2011 US economy is brightening.

Employers will hire more workers this year, and the economy will grow faster than envisioned three months ago, according to an Associated Press survey that found growing optimism among leading economists.

But unemployment will stay chronically high â€" nearly 9 percent by year's end, the latest quarterly AP Economy Survey shows. A majority of economists say it will be 2016 or later before unemployment drops to a historically normal rate of around 5 percent.

Economists have become more confident 19 months after the worst recession since the Great Depression ended. Lower Social Security taxes and higher stock prices will embolden Americans to spend more and help power the economy, they say.

"People will finally recognize that an economic recovery is under way," said Lynn Reaser, a board member of the National Association for Business Economics. "This won't be a recovery seen only by economists."

The gains this year will be enough to withstand the threats still clouding the economy, the AP survey found. A majority of the economists doubt, for example, that falling home prices and higher mortgage rates will pose a major risk to the economy in 2011.

The AP survey collected the views of 42 private, corporate and academic economists on a range of indicators. Among their forecasts:

• The economy will grow 3.2 percent this year, compared with the 2.7 percent they forecast in October. That would top last year's estimated growth of less than 3 percent.

• Employers will create a net total of 2.2 million jobs. Three months ago, the economists predicted 1.6 million jobs would be added in 2011. Last year, employers added roughly 1.1 million.

• Consumers will spend 3.2 percent more this year than last year. That's stronger than the 2.5 percent growth the economists had forecast in October. And it's nearly double the spending growth that's estimated for 2010.

• Inflation will be 1.8 percent this year, barely more than the 1.7 percent the economists forecast in the previous survey and up only slightly from 1.5 percent last year. The 1.8 percent forecast falls within the range of inflation the Federal Reserve thinks a healthy economy needs.

Among the reasons for the economists' growing optimism: an extension of income-tax cuts, a cut in Social Security taxes for workers, easier access to loans, higher stock prices and a government that seems more sympathetic to the priorities of businesses.

The brighter outlook is also evident among people responsible for hiring.

Jerry Huddleston, human resources manager of the Ozark Natural Foods grocery store in Fayetteville, Ark., said he plans to hire for busy weekend shifts because sales are improving.

The store is generally slow to add jobs. But Huddleston said business is picking up. Customers seem more willing to pay more for organic milk, vitamin supplements and pre-made vegetarian meals.

"I think people are starting to be more confident that the job they have is the job they will have tomorrow," he said.

As the economy gradually strengthens, the economists expect interest rates will tick up, as they already have begun to do. They think the yield on the 10-year Treasury note, now at 3.4 percent, will reach 3.6 percent by midyear and 3.9 percent by year's end. Those higher rates would force up mortgage rates, which tend to track the 10-year Treasury yield.

Yet when asked about a range of threats â€" from falling home prices and rising energy prices to state budget woes and Europe's debt crisis â€" the economists called each a minor risk rather than a major risk to the economy.

In the spring and summer, many analysts had feared the economy might slide back into a "double-dip" recession.

"Consumers and businesses are in a better mood," said Nariman Behravesh, chief economist at IHS Global Insight. "They are spending a little more freely. Not a lot more freely, but a little more freely."

That helps explain why Behravesh has lifted his forecast for economic growth in 2011 to 3.2 percent, from 2.2 percent in October.

Still, the Fed said Wednesday that the economy isn't growing fast enough to lower unemployment and still needs help from the Fed's $600 billion Treasury bond-purchase program. The bond purchases are intended to lower rates on loans and boost stock prices, spurring more spending and invigorating the economy.

President Barack Obama still faces risks from voters skeptical of his economic stewardship, according to a new Associated Press-GfK poll. More than half disapprove of how he's handled the economy. Just 35 percent say it's improved on his watch; 40 percent had said so a year ago.

Yet public sentiment may brighten if the economists prove correct in their forecasts. Rajeev Dhawan, director of Georgia State University's Economic Forecasting Center, has raised his estimate for growth this year to 2.7 percent, from 1.8 percent three months ago.

This year "will be better than 2010 in terms of hiring, spending and economic growth," Dhawan said. "Yet unemployment will decline only slowly. At least we're not going backward."

Kendra Wilkinson and Taryn Ryan Sex Tape: On the Way!

Kendra Wilkinson might go Dancing with the Stars. But, according to a new report, she's definitely gone sex taping with another woman.

Following the successful release of Kendra Exposed last spring, sources confirm to Radar Online that another amateur porn starring this former Girl Next Door is out there, and it co-stars a female named Taryn Ryan.

Major Sex Tape StarKendra Exposed

"They were friends and were hanging out together, with their boyfriends," an insider says of Kendra and Taryn. "It's a long tape, about 45 minutes. And there is nothing left to the imagination."

Sounds hot!!!

The source adds that the man behind the camera is Justin Frye, Kendra's ex and former sex tape partner. How did this sequel come about?

"Kendra and Taryn started fooling around and then Kendra wanted the light turned off. But the camera that was recording them had night vision, so it looks like the Paris Hilton porn tape. Everything is completely clear... They started kissing while giggling and then things got hotter."

The tape is reportedly being shopped to the highest bidder.

We can expect Wilkinson to come out any moment now and shed a few tears, pretending to be embarrassed about the scandal, only to be pocketing six figures again behind the scenes.

We'll have more on this story as information becomes available. Speaking of someone who has been coming... nevermind.

Your Eyes Will Make You Look and Feel Beautiful

Your Eyes Will Make You Look and Feel Beautiful

Eye makeup and its application.

The eye makeup tips are the most essential part of our makeup tips. As we all know eyes are the windows to who we are? We need to portray them to the people in a way that we project ourselves in a better way through them.  Although eyes are the most essential part of your face but the makeup you use should be designed and synchronized with everything used on the face from the eye makeup to the lipstick and the blusher.

The health of your eyes along with the beauty is very important. While you choose for your eye makeup be very careful about what you get, since your vision should never be affected by the makeup product you are using. If you are allergic to some kind of eye makeup don’t use it, use the one for sensitive eyes or go for natural products.

After you choose for the right kind of eye makeup for yourself, go for a good eye makeup remover as well, if you leave the makeup for too long it will affect the skin around the eyes.

If make isn’t removed properly may it be on the eyes or the face it penetrates down into the pores and damages the skin and the skin around the eyes is very sensitive so special care should be taken to remove that make up.

This time the triangular eye makeup is the latest trend for the spring 2011. The triangular eye makeup is to apply the makeup towards the inner corner of the eye and the brow. This will be different and bold. Your eyes will look enhanced and it will make your eyes be more prominent especially because the makeup is towards the inner corner of the eyes.

While applying makeup you should pay special attention to the eyes or else the most important part of your face will be missed.

Eye makeup application is an art in itself. If you know this art you know how to feel beautiful and look beautiful.

The Bachelor Meltdown: Ashley Hebert Goes Haywire!

Michelle Money may get more attention has the consensus loon of The Bachelor, but diminutive dentist Ashley Hebert put on quite a display last night as well.

Fueled by envy and massive amounts of alcohol, Ash turned into an emotional wreck, hijacking alone time with Brad Womack from rival Britt Billmaier.

As Womack and Billmaier's makeout session escalated, so did Hebert's desire.

"I just want him to myself," she cried as she barged in. "One-on-one time is critical. I'm a firsthand witness to Brad's relationship with these other girls."

That's not all. Crazily enough, her tactics worked, and she looked poised to capture the group date rose - until blurting out something really awkward.

The clip above shows Ashley's antics, which we also discussed in our Bachelor recap, in all their glory. Here's a bonus clip of the cocktail party, as well:

Posted on Jan 21st, 2011 | Comments (0)

Already the waves of winter 2011 are making your skin all dried up that even the lotions and medicines have stopped providing a useful cure. In winters the skin becomes dry and irritated causing eczema.

Here are some skin care tips 2011 for making your skin comfortable in winter.

According to this skin care tip 2011, use a humidifier. With the heat on in the room and the windows are closed, the air inside can become very dry in the winter, making the skin dry and itching of eczema even worse. Use a humidifier to place moisture in the air. If you don’t want to invest in an expensive humidifying system, buy inexpensive ones from store. This will help in winters and keep the skin from drying and becoming cracked and itchy.

This skin care suggestion believes that switch on to an oil-based moisturizer and moisturize frequently. The more oil a moisturizer contains the more effectively it protects against moisture loss. Usually, these moisturizers for skin come in ointment form and contain the most oil because an ointment, by definition, consists of 80% oil and 20% water. These ointments are excellent for skin care but should not be used on areas of the body that tend to get hot and sweaty.

In winters, this skin care tip 2011 suggest that apply a heavy layer of mostuirising broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to the face, hands, and any other skin that may be exposed. This will act as a barrier to help protect against the harsh elements and is especially important if you will be outside for any length of time. Sunscreen is important in winter as the sun’s reflective powers are great year round, but contact your dermatologist for skin care guidelines.

This skin care tip 2011 suggests that protect your hands from getting cold as low humidity helps in preventing flare-ups. Gloves help in protecting your skin against dryness. Some people believe that if you wear a cotton mitten next to the skin and a woolen mitten over the cotton one, it keeps hands warm and dry.

Also dress in layers for better skin care protection as it allows you to sweat and prevent overheating. Be sure to wear loose-fitting cotton fabrics next to your skin. Also shed wet clothes and shoes immediately as they irritate the skin and cause a flare-up.

Follow these winter skin care tips, 2011 and cherish the glow of a healthy skin.
